Action Alert: Protect Medicaid Medical and Community-Based Services and Supports for Americans with Disabilities

USBIA PUBLIC POLICY COMMITTEE ACTION ALERT:

Action needed this week!!!

Last week, Senators Bill Cassidy and Lindsey Graham unveiled a plan for Congress to consider, to repeal the Affordable Care Act and drastically cut the Medicaid program that is vital in providing the medical and community supports needed by Americans with brain injury. Although the official Congressional Budget Office (CBO) score is still forthcoming, we know the Graham-Cassidy plan proposes dramatic and damaging cuts and caps to Medicaid, as was attempted earlier this year.

The Graham-Cassidy plan puts per capita caps on Medicaid, leading to devastating cuts in funding, penalizes states that have invested in their Medicaid systems, and phases out Medicaid expansion and marketplace subsidies. The bill also includes block grants to the states that will end after 2026, leaving uncertainty as to how funding gaps will be addressed down the line. A few senators have come out against the proposal, but United States Brain Injury Alliance constituents need to take action TODAY to prevent the Graham- Cassidy from becoming law.

Contact your senators (202-224-3121) today and urge them to oppose the Graham-Cassidy plan or any other bill that cuts, caps, or block grants Medicaid. We, with other advocacy organizations, demonstrated the power of our collective voices with previous attempts to cut Medicaid, and together we can ensure the Graham-Cassidy proposal and its negative implications are avoided!
